Google Is Now Showing Your Social Posts on Your Business Profile — What It Means
Search your own business on Google right now. Below your address, hours and reviews, you may find something new: a row of your own Instagram, Facebook or YouTube posts, sitting right there on your Business Profile.
That's Google's Social Media Updates carousel — and it quietly changes something important. Your social media is no longer just social media. It's now part of what a customer sees when they look you up on Google. And if your last post was eight months ago, that's what they see.
Here's exactly what changed, what you control (less than you'd think), and what to do about it this week.
What actually changed
Google lets you add your social profiles to your Business Profile. Once linked, Google can pull recent posts from those accounts and display them as visual cards — image, caption, timestamp and the platform it came from — directly on your profile in Search.
In Google's own words, posts about "events, deals, or special offers" from your linked social profiles may also show. You don't publish them to Google. You don't approve them. Once the account is connected, Google handles it.
A related shift made this bigger: in mid-2025 Instagram began allowing Google to index public posts from professional accounts (business or creator). That opened up a huge pool of local business content that Google previously couldn't touch.
The seven platforms you can connect
You can add one link per platform — one Facebook and one YouTube, but never two YouTubes:
| Platform | Worth linking for a local business? |
|---|---|
| Yes — usually the highest-impact for visual businesses (salons, cafés, clinics) | |
| Yes — still where most Indian local audiences engage | |
| YouTube | Yes if you have any video at all |
| Useful for B2B and professional services | |
| TikTok | Only if you're genuinely active there |
| Niche — interiors, food, fashion, events | |
| X | Low priority for most local businesses |
Don't link a platform you've abandoned. An empty or stale account is worse than no link.
How to add them (2 minutes)
- Open your Business Profile (search your business name while signed in as the owner).
- Select Edit profile → Contact.
- Next to Social profiles, select Edit.
- Choose the platform from the dropdown and paste your profile URL in the Web address field.
- Select Add social profile to add more, then Save.
Some profiles show social links automatically if they already meet Google's requirements — so you may find some already there.
The part most people miss: you don't choose which posts appear
This is the bit worth sitting with. You control the connection, not the content selection:
| You control | You do NOT control |
|---|---|
| Which platforms you link | Which individual posts Google picks |
| What you post, and how often | The order they appear in |
| Whether your Instagram is a professional account | Whether the carousel shows at all |
| Removing a link entirely | When it refreshes |
Practically, this means every public post is now a potential Google Business Profile asset. That meme you posted for your followers, the blurry photo, the political opinion — any of it could end up beside your business hours in front of a customer who's deciding whether to call you. Post accordingly.
Why this matters more than it sounds
1. Social and local search have merged. For years these were separate jobs — "do social" and "do Google." Google just collapsed them. Your Instagram is now feeding a search surface where buying decisions happen.
2. Dead social now looks dead publicly. Previously, an inactive Instagram was invisible to Google searchers. Now, an abandoned account linked to your profile can broadcast neglect at exactly the wrong moment. Either keep it active or don't link it.
3. Descriptive beats clever. Because these posts now appear in a search context, posts that clearly show your work, products and services do more for you than in-jokes. A caption that says what you do and where you are is now doing double duty.
4. It's a free slice of profile real estate. Your competitors mostly haven't set this up. Connecting your accounts takes two minutes and gives you more visual space on your own profile.

- Link your active accounts — Instagram and Facebook at minimum, using the steps above.
- Make sure Instagram is a professional account (Business or Creator). Personal accounts aren't indexed for this.
- Audit your last 9 posts — that's roughly what a customer might see. Would they make you look open, busy and competent? If not, fix the feed before you link it.
- Unlink anything you've abandoned. No link is better than a graveyard.
- Post something this week. Freshness is the entire point of the feature.
The honest caveats
Most articles about this leave these out, so here they are:
- It isn't everywhere. Google states the feature is "available only in select regions and languages, and may not be available for all users." If you don't see it, you're not doing anything wrong.
- It's not a confirmed ranking factor. Google has not said linking social profiles ranks you higher. What it does affect is what customers see and how active you look — which drives clicks and calls. Be sceptical of anyone promising rankings from this.
- You can't cherry-pick posts. If that's a dealbreaker, don't link the account.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to do anything for my social posts to show on Google? Yes — you need to link your social profiles to your Business Profile first (Edit profile → Contact → Social profiles). After that it's automatic: Google pulls recent posts itself. But the feature is only available in select regions, so linking doesn't guarantee the carousel appears.
Can I choose which posts appear on my profile? No. You control which accounts are connected, not which individual posts Google surfaces. That's why it's worth treating every public post as something a potential customer might see next to your business hours.
Does my Instagram need to be a business account? Yes — Google indexes public posts from professional (Business or Creator) accounts. A personal Instagram account won't feed the carousel.
Will linking my social profiles help me rank higher on Google Maps? Google hasn't confirmed this as a ranking factor, so treat any such promise with caution. What it reliably does is give you more space on your profile and make your business look active — which influences whether someone clicks or calls.
I linked my accounts but see nothing. What's wrong? Probably nothing. Google says the feature is available only in select regions and languages and may not appear on every profile. It can also take time to populate. Keep the accounts active and check again later.
Should I link a platform I barely use? No. An abandoned account with a post from two years ago makes you look closed. Link only what you actually keep current, and remove links to accounts you've stopped using.
